Trauma-informed training and consulting for law enforcement, advocates, and first responders navigating domestic violence, sexual assault, and related harms — built from real experience on both sides of the system.
At Butterfly Effect Training & Consulting, we believe that how first responders show up in a survivor's most vulnerable moment can change everything.
We equip law enforcement, advocates, and allied professionals with the knowledge, tools, and perspective they need to respond with both competence and compassion. Our training and consulting services are grounded in real-world experience — from the field, the investigation room, and the advocate's office — so that every professional we work with is better prepared to protect survivors and strengthen their communities.
We specialize in domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, sex trafficking, and trauma-informed response — with a lens that centers cultural awareness, coordinated systems, and the dignity of every person involved.
Our consulting is led by a husband-and-wife team — a law enforcement officer and an advocate — who bring complementary, real-world perspectives to every engagement. We don't just train professionals; we help agencies build stronger, more coordinated systems.
Our approach is built on four pillars:
• Coordinated Response: We help teams work across roles and agencies — building trust, improving communication, and responding as a unified front.
• Trauma-Informed Practice: We teach professionals how to respond with empathy, minimize re-traumatization, and support survivors and families with clarity and care.
• Cultural Awareness: We center the importance of identity, history, and community context in every interaction — because one-size-fits-all approaches miss the people who need help most.
• Practical, Actionable Tools: We deliver strategies, real-world scenarios, and skills you can use immediately — tailored to high-pressure, high-impact environments.
We believe meaningful change happens when shared understanding and strong partnerships replace siloed responses. Our work is rooted in safety, dignity, and respect — for survivors, families, and the professionals who serve them.

With more than 15 years in law enforcement, Erick Gil has dedicated his career to some of the most demanding and sensitive areas of policing: domestic violence, sexual assault investigations, human trafficking, and child sex trafficking.
Erick serves as both a law enforcement instructor and field training officer — roles that reflect his deep belief that better training leads to better outcomes for everyone involved. He brings a victim-centered, trauma-informed mindset to every course and consultation, drawing on years of frontline experience to help professionals navigate the complexities of high-stakes investigations with integrity, empathy, and effectiveness.
His goal is straightforward: to raise the standard of response across the profession — one well-trained officer at a time.

Samantha Gil is an advocate, consultant, and trainer with over 14 years of experience supporting individuals, families, and systems through crisis, recovery, and systemic change.
Her work includes seven years in tribal advocacy — centering Native voices, culturally grounded healing, and sovereignty in every aspect of her practice. That experience continues to shape how she approaches every training and every room she walks into.
As co-founder of Butterfly Effect Training & Consulting, Samantha works with first responders and agencies to build more effective, trauma-informed responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and related harms. Her background as a Tribal Court Legal Advocate gives her rare insight into both the human and systemic dimensions of crisis response.
She believes change happens at the intersection of knowledge, compassion, and collaboration — and she brings all three to every engagement.
